Emergency survival kits are items every home, business and vehicle should have in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. In today's world it is becoming more important for individuals, families, and businesses to be prepared. Within the last 8 years the U.S. government has increased
their efforts to provide more information to consumers to aid in their preparations. What has changed over the last two decades to spark this increasing need for emergency survival kits and other disaster preparations?
One factor is the changes in storm activity. Over the last two decades the number of weather related disasters has quadrupled and continues to increase. These storms continue to become more powerful and more unpredictable each year. Many scientists blame these changes on global warming which is caused by the increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. These gases trap more heat in the atmosphere giving storms more fuel and increasing their strength. These conditions have produced storms such as hurricane Katrina which caused over $81,000,000,000 in damage in the U.S. in 2005.
Another factor is the increase in terrorist activity around the world. September 11, 2001 showed us,
that terrorism was alive and well. It also made many people realize that the U.S. is not immune to terrorist attacks. Since 9/11 this country has experienced many changes to increase our preparedness
in case of another attack. One of our greatest concerns is what will they attack with next and when. If they choose biological or nuclear weapons, in an instant food and water supplies could be contaminated causing spikes in water and food prices. These situations usually bring about riots and other forms of violence. This is where early planning can keep you and your family out of harm’s way. By taking the time
to purchase your emergency survival kits, extra food, and extra water, you and your family can be better prepared when the worst comes.
Will you be ready?
